Carole’s August Blog

Dear All,

Norman, Robin and Steve have been on the campaign trail again and have done a sterling job in getting Chobham to back a project to make a family friendly Safe walking/cycling route from Chobham to Woking, we would like to get as many people as possible to sign the on line petition. Here is the link:

If you know of any others who might sign the petition, please pass this on.

Annette has been trying to get Woking to do something about all the parking  on the shared pedestrian/cycle pavement in front of the flats on Victoria Way (opposite the Double Tree Inn). Many days it is almost impossible to even go down there on a bike for the sheer number of vehicles. I fear she is being passed from pillar to post but we will just have to see if anything is done about it.

Still on campaign issues,  Norman’s suggestion for the A245 off road route for cyclist use received the following reply from the  Elmbridge Local Committee  “ They met on 26th June and the scheme was retained in the programme. I don’t have a date for the works, but my understanding is that it is in the Local Highways Office’s programme for this financial year.”

On to something completely different. Be aware that Cycle to Work Day is Sept 13 with lots of prizes and incentives to cycle to work,  at least that day. I hope this link will take you to all the information. www.cycletoworkday.org.

Our easy social ride will be on 20 August leaving from the meeting point by the children’s playground in Woking Park at 2pm.

Pub night is 29 August at the Sovereigns on Guildford road.

I should warn you that our easy ride in September may have to be cancelled. The gods have conspired to make it impossible for our usual leaders to lead this one. We will keep looking and let you know for sure in our next WCUG matters.

Happy cycling,
Carole Frost
WCUG membership secretary
