Cycle Lane Suggestions

  • Use the grass verge between Chertsey Road, Byfleet along the A245 to Sopwith Drive. This would be a continuation of the cycle lane along Parvis Road.
  • When you cycle from St. Johns, Goldsworth Park etc. towards town, there are cycle lanes or shared pavements till you come to Well Lane. You then are directed to just pass the bridge on the tow path. This is a very narrow section of the tow path. Turn the grass verge on the tow path side of Lockfield drive into a cycle lane.
  • Bring up to standard the cycle path between Chobham and Woking along Station/Chobham Road.
  • Provide a safe haven on the side of the road for people and their bikes on Station/Chobham Road just past Mimbridge  where people are instructed to get off their bikes and cross the road to go down Horsell Common Road.
  • Make a cycle path along Chobham Road between Heather Farm and Horsell common road which goes left down Horsell common road.
  • Resurface and widen cycle path on side of A320 between Burdenshot Road and Mayford roundabout. There already exists a cycle/walking path but it is in very poor condition. Continuation of path needed between Prey Heath Road and Mayford roundabout.
  • A bicycle lane on west side of Sheerwater Road from Old Woking Road to Albert Drive, with a Pelican Crossing outside the Golf Club at Madeira Road. This will facilitate cycling to the station and West Byfleet Centre. The return journey is more problematic as the mini roundabout at Sheerwater Road/Old Woking Road is difficult to navigate for inexperienced or non-confident cyclists. This will ultimately require higher investment and road redesign.
  • Make sure there is an off-road cycle path from the Broadoak Parks development to West Byfleet.
  • The shared paths along Old Woking Road and Parvis Road should be continuous across junctions with ‘blue lanes’ giving priority over turning traffic. This could be addressed fairly quickly but requires some investment and local legislation.
  • Where the pavements are wide enough, make them dual use, and join up the cycle paths better as some stop then restart elsewhere.
  • Remove restrictions on cycling in town centre of Woking. Allow cycling at all times of day.
