Cycling in the Spring?
What can the Spring bring? Well, usual British weather is "anything". It might snow, rain, hail, wind or sun or rarely all at once!
Statistically cyclists only get wet 12 times a year, a feat that sounds amazing but often true.
The best advice for the spring is be prepared for anything. Synthetic bike clothes dry very fast but to non-cyclists you can look a bit silly. A decent pair of waterproof socks are handy. Even when your shoes get soaked your feet stay warm. Likewise, decent waterproof gloves do the same for your hands. There's nothing worse than freezing hands or feet. It is painful and easily avoided.
You can get lightweight coats called "gillets" which are usually shower proof, windproof and pack down into a very small size. These are very handy if you suddenly get stuck in a storm. The can be fairly expensive so keep an eye out in the sales.
Becareful of non-breathable waterproof clothes. If you sweat a lot then you can end up wetter than if it was raining on you! Cycling specific clothing is usually more breathable, but the best costs a lot of money.
