Major road closures will be in effect on Thursday 24 June 2010 when the Halfords Tour Series grand final takes place in Woking.

From 10am until midnight on Thursday 24 June, road closures will be in place to allow for the construction of the race circuit and to give cyclists the chance to be the kings of the road during community races, which begin at 1.30pm. The routes that will be affected include:


A320 Guildford Road from the Sovereigns Pub to Lockfield Drive (including Victoria Road)

Goldsworth Road from A320 Victoria Way to Coign Church roundabout

Church Road West from Coign Church roundabout to A320 Victoria Way.

Diversion routes will be in place while the road closures are in operation. Lockfield Drive entering town centre from the west will remain open at all times, giving all-day access to the shoppers' car parks within Peacocks and Wolsey Place Shopping Centres.

Paul Fishwick, Cycle Woking Programme Manager, said: "The roads need to be closed at 10am to allow for the course to be built. It only leaves three hours and thirty minutes to build the entire circuit and so it is a very tight schedule.

"The whole point of having the Tour Series is to enable schools, businesses and local people to get involved and try out racing on a town centre circuit. The professional race is the icing on the cake for us."

Last year 10,000 people lined the streets to watch the event unfold and this year larger crowds are expected to gather to see the final race in the 10-stage series. Visitors are urged to visit the town via train or public transport or to get on there bike to avoid congestion.
Roads closed on 24 June 2010 from 10am until midnight are:

A320 Guildford Road and Victoria Way from the southern boundary line of The Sovereigns Public House in a northerly direction to its junction with Lockfield Drive.

Goldsworth Road from its junction with A320 Victoria Way to its junction with the eastern end of Poole Road.
*
Church Street West from its junction with Goldsworth Road to its junction with Victoria Way.
*
Church Street West from its junction with Victoria Way to its junction with Cawsey Way.
*
Cawsey Way from its junction with Church Street West to its junction with High Street.
*
High Street from its junction with Cawsey Way to its junction with Broadway.
*
A320 Victoria Way from a point approximately 1 metre west of The Peacocks Car Park access in a westerly direction to its junction with Lockfield Drive.
*
A320 Victoria Way from its junction with Lockfield Drive in a southerly direction to its junction with Victoria Road.
*
Victoria Road to its junction with Oriental Road in an easterly direction.
*
Station Approach from its junction with Heathside Crescent to its junction with Heathside Road.
*
A320 Slip Road (Station Approach to Guildford Road).
