Repairing and maintaining
your bike
Introduction
We have been running cycle
maintenance workshops once a year in June for a few years now, but would like
to reach a wider audience in helping people to look after their bikes. Too many bikes are out of action, left lying
in a garden shed with a puncture. At the
workshop someone suggested that we should include on our website a page on how
to look after and repair your bike. This
seems quite an ambitious undertaking as it would have to include pictures and
enable someone to print out the useful information to keep beside them while
doing the job.
Fortunately others have
already produced such material, so, until we get round to something ourselves,
I’ve provided links below to some useful sites for advice. What we will probably then do is to add some
additional advice to build on what is in these linked sites. As always, I’d welcome any feedback or
suggestions to iankwright@hotmail.com.
Useful sites for cycle
repair and maintenance:
|
|
|
|
Video Jug
– has videos with soundtrack to
guide you through many of the repair jobs.
Not so good when you are outside with the bike in front of you, but
jolly good for giving confidence before you start. |
|
|
Park
Tools – The opening page allows
you to select which part of the bike you are interested in and the advice given
can easily be printed out for use when doing the job. |
|
|
Jim
Langley – A somewhat quirky site
which may appeal. It certainly contains
lots of useful advice. The diagrams
don’t print well. |
|
|
Bike
Website – has some very helpful
pages on adjusting gears. |
|
|
Bicycle
Tutor – covers some quite complex
tasks such as truing a wheel as well as simpler jobs like repairing a
puncture and adjusting brakes.
Presented with videos with soundtrack and printable advice. |
