Secondary Cycle Route Network – Your Views Needed Now!

The primary network of 10 radial cycle routes from the centre of Woking is described on the Woking Cycle Network page of our website.  As well as routes across the town centre we are also keen to supplement these with a "Secondary Network" to link village centres and other local destinations. We would value your help with this.   A series of 8 Surrey Cycle Guides was produced by Surrey County Council a couple of years ago and copies may still be obtainable from local libraries or from the SCC contact centre at 08456 009 009.  These guides are useful maps at a scale of approximately 1:20,000 (5cm to a km) and the guide covering the Woking area is number 2.  They show dedicated and signposted cycle routes as well as other quiet roads recommended for cycling.

This sort of information can always be improved.  To help us, we need to hear from as many cyclists as possible about their favourite routes and destinations. So….. what are your preferred routes? What roads do you know of that are already fairly cycle-friendly? Do you know of any useful short cuts? What destinations do you think should be included on a secondary network?

We are keen to ensure that all parts of the Borough are covered, including Brookwood, Byfleet, Horsell, Knaphill, Mayford, Old Woking, Pyrford, St Johns and Westfield. We are certain that popular destinations just outside the Borough are also of interest to Woking’s cyclists. Clearly, this is a large area to think about and the detailed local knowledge of local cyclists will therefore be extremely valuable. All ideas and suggestions will be very welcome. Please e-mail them to Ian Wright who will be happy to include your ideas.
