Come on a Bike Ride

For several years now we have been leading regular bike rides aimed at people who are either not very experienced cyclists or who don’t have the confidence to go very far on their own.  For those used to riding long distances at a good speed there are organisations that arrange rides to suit them.  Try the CTC West Surrey District Association or Charlotteville Cycle Club for such rides.

However if your wish if something altogether easier and more relaxing, with a group of friendly and helpful people, then come on one or our rides.  The calendar for the rides is shown below.  The short and slow rides are always on the third Sunday in the month so they are easier to remember.  In addition I have arranged a couple of longer rides and, if people want me to, I will again lead an all-day ride in early October.

Just turn up on the day; there is no need to reserve a place.  If the weather is awful, I will cancel the ride, but if this happens, I will always put a sign up on the tree where we meet.

The cost to cover insurance is £1 for members of Woking Cycle Users’ Group and £2 for non-members.

Ø      Ability – The rides are designed for people not used to riding a bicycle any distance.  If you can ride to the shops, you will be able to manage these rides.  I never leave anyone behind.

Ø      Route – The routes will be on tracks and minor roads.  The short rides will be about 10-15 miles long and will take approximately 2 – 2 ½ hours.

Ø      What to bring?  Bike – which should be in good working order. A bottle of water.  Wear suitable clothing and maybe bring a waterproof.  It is your choice whether to wear a cycle helmet.  Lights should not be needed during the summer season.

Ø      Where to meet?  In the car park at Woking Leisure Centre by the tree near the childrens’ playground at 1.50pm, ready to leave at 2 p.m.

Ø      What about children?  Sorry, no unaccompanied children under 15, but accompanied children are welcome provided they are strong enough to cycle at a slow adult pace.  They will need a proper bike with gears and at least 20” wheels.

The rides will be led by Ian Wright or other members of the Cycle Users’ Group.
